The sun had crawled up the pale blue sky, reaching the peak of its journey. Rays of sunlight made the area around the lake and forest hot, which wasn't something Beatrice liked. Being an ice type made the sun's heat feel a little bit warmer, but she didn't complain. Beatrice hated complaining, and doing it herself made her feel like a hypocrite. This meant a long walk in the sun to get to Crystal Lake.
She had decided to head there since the lake would be a great place to cool off. The thought of the cool water covering her back made her smile. Her eyes scanned the trees as she trotted closer to her destination. Her long light blue ears listened to the few noises around her. Blue eyes scanning through the trees, just catching a glimpse of a light blue-green colour.
This made Beatrice speed up, until the trees cleared and before her was Crystal Lake. A smile stretched across the glaceon's face as her eyes feasted upon the sight before her. "Finally." She breathed out.
Quni walked and walked for who knows how long. At one point he stopped to take a break. His stomach let out a growl but Quni ignored it. He has food with him but decided to wait till he got to the location he needed to go. Instead he reached in his bag and took a couple jelly beans to null the pain in his gut.
As he nibbled on a red one, his favorite Quni took out a piece of paper. Written on it were details of the job he accepted. It was requested by Bolt a luxray asking for someone to go to Crystal Lake to retrieve a lost item. The pay was small but seemed rather easy. He just started on his life as an explorer and this was his very first job. Quni wanted his first to be special but his Grandfather suggested to do something small and easy and work his way up gradually.
Usually Quni would like to do something more challenging and dangerous but about time he looked at the board all the good jobs were taken.
After a few moments Quni kept going and soon the quilava came to the beautiful lake. His red eyes widened and gapped in amazement and awe by the spectacular sight. The lake was big and the waters crystal clear, the surface glittering from the bright sun.
Beatrice felt glad to find the lake after walking for so long. The heat was sinking into her fur, making her still feel hot. Bounding, Beatrice moved closer to the lake, until reaching the rim of the water. Her paws touched the brim of the water, the waves lapping gently over them.
She smiled, taking a few steps off the shore of the lake. The water began to rise around her as she walked into the lake. Her paws walked across the sand until she felt the water rise over her back. Beatrice dunked her head beneath the water, feeling the cool temperature run down her neck.
Her blue eyes focused back on the shore, that was when she saw another pokemon. A smile appeared on her face and the desire talk over took her. Beatrice, to the best of her ability, moved quietly through the water, reaching the sword in a few moments. She then shook herself, causing droplets of water to fly around her, until she was close to dry.
Beatrice then trotted up to the pokemon who had ventured to the lake, until she was in earshot. "Hello." Beatrice greeted, stopping once she was close to the pokemon.
Quni was still admiring the lake when the other pokemon came to shore. He didn't see her and by now he was thinking what kind of secrets this lake holds, what treasures it keeps hidden.
Just the thought of treasure got his mind spinning with basic ideas of it, crystals, stones, objects made of gold, silver or other rare dazzling materials.
He was caught by surprise when the glaceon approached. His ears pricked forward and smiled cheerfully to the other pokemon. "Hey! Beautiful isn't it?" Quni said pointing to the lake.
Beatrice's eyes glanced over at the crystal waters of the lake. The sun created a shine over the water's surface, making a beautiful display. "Yes, very beautiful indeed." Beatrice agreed. She was glad she came to the lake, rather then the popular beach.
Small pokemon may be screaming their heads off there, well at the lake it was quiet and peaceful. "The lake is often more quiet too. A good place to be if you're just looking to relax." Beatrice commented, her blue eyes focused on the water. Her fur was still a bit damp, creating a tiny bit of discomfort, but it kept her pelt cool.
Quni couldn't help but agree to the quiet bit. He never quite minded the noise of other pokemon but then he was raised around so many pokemon and had often been part of all the fun. Rarely Quni has been to places like these that are peaceful quiet. Now he was thinking on it, he quite liked this quiet. It's a nice change to the crowds.
Just then he remembered about his job. He has been so focused on the scenery and that he forgot completely about it. He turned to his bag that was brand new. His grandfather bought it for him as a gift as well as the explorer badge on the strap. Looking at the badge it looked quite old and ragged as if it has been part of countless adventures. In which it has.
Quni took out a piece of paper. With the writing there was a drawing of the item he was looking for. It was a magnet but not just any magnet. In the drawing it has a nick in it and Bolt explained this magnet has been passed down from generation to generation and also mentioned it enhances an electric type pokemon's electric moves.
"Umm... have you seen this magnet around here?" Quni asked, pointing at the picture. "It has a nick in it."
The breath taking scenery was a very distracting sight and with quiet surroundings there wasn't much to take away anybody's attention. Beatrice's blue eyes shone brightly with wonder as she thought about the lake. It reminded her of some of the stories her mother told her when she returned from an adventure.
She was absorbed in the scenery, taking in every little bit, to an extent that she didn't hear the rustling of papers, or anything else. The only thing her blue ears picked up was the voice of the pokemon next to her. It snapped her out of her trace-like state. Beatrice blinked a few times, thinking of what she had seen when she was around the area.
"I haven't seen any magnets at all." Beatrice answered, her eyes searching for such a thing. "Did you loose it?" Beatrice asked curiously, her eyes looking back at the pokemon next to her.
As he asked he was hopeful she would know especially after she glanced around their surroundings.
"I haven't seen any magnets at all." The glaceon asked, glancing around. "Did you loose it?"
"No," Quni dropped his arms, the flyer sweeping down from the sudden movement. He sat down, slightly depressed now that he had no one that found the item.
"Aww, mon! I was hoping you've seen it," Quni said, rather gloomy. Some part of his mind clicked and quickly he jumped up to his feet, suddenly energized. "Okay, that just means I have to work that much harder to find it!" he put his paw into a fist and punched at the air with a smirk on his face.
"Treasure Hunter Quni is not going to let a little set back turn him away," he said, confident now. After a moment he turned back to the glaceon. "No, the item I'm looking for belongs to a client who made the request to retrieve his lost item." He explained. "My name is Quni by the way."
Her ears twitched as she heard the quilava plop on the ground. Beatrice couldn't completely understand why her finding the magnet would be such a great thing. The glaceon always took a bit of pride in her accomplishments, thus the reason why she preferred doing things herself.
Despite her independent mindset, she could still partially understand why the quilava hoped she had found it. She didn't know what to say to cheer him up, but in a matter of seconds, the quilava managed to cheer himself up. It was as though he had given himself a small pep-talk and was ready to head out.
Beatrice listened to the explanation about the client and the retrieval quest and nodded. Lastly, the quilava introduced himself as Quni. Beatrice smiled, figuring it was the correct etiquette. "My name is Beatrice, and it's a pleasure to meet you." She remember that her mother told her that a positive behavior would help her become an adventurer.
Her mind then shuffled to another idea. If she helped Quni, perhaps she could learn a few things about treasure, which would help in her goals to become an adventurer. "I can help you if, you want. I have nothing else to do." Beatrice offered, hoping for a yes.
Quni couldn't help but smile. "Beatrice, a beautiful name and one so fitting," he complemented. He didn't mean it as a line to get her as most guys would but quite genuine and innocent. He never quite fixed on female pokemon but instead focused on treasure and adventures his grandfather told.
"I can help you if, you want. I have nothing else to do." Beatrice offered.
The quilava nodded his smile reaching his eyes. "Awesome! I wouldn't mind the help."
Beatrice smiled at the compliment of her name. "Thanks, and it means voyager. That's what I like about it." She explained, remembering what her name meant. She didn't know why her parents had chosen the name, but she took a liking to it, mostly to the name's meaning.
Joy flooded through her limbs when Quni said that she could help. Beatrice began to move around the area, her blue eyes scanning as she trotted on the grass. Something caught her eye, making her come closer to the lake and peer into the waters. She smiled, thinking she had found it, but unfortunately it was just a shiny rock in the lake waters.
"Dang it." Beatrice uttered, her face going into a frown for a few seconds. Her head lifted and her blue eyes began to scan again.
"Thanks, and it means voyager. That's what I like about it." She explained, smiling.
Quni cocked his head slightly, thinking. "You know, I don't know what mine means," he said uncertainly. "Grandpa never really quite explained it to me." Quni didn't add that he never considered what his name meant or really names had meanings at all. Now it quite intrigued him and noted to ask Tyroc after he gets back to the village and finished the job.
As Beatrice looked at the shore Quni decided to look a little off shore but couldn't find anything that even resembled a magnet. He came back to shore and looked at the flyer again. "It says here the item was lost near the shore of Crystal Lake. He even put details where he might have lost it," he said to Beatrice. He glanced at the flyer again. "Is there a river near here?" He asked, thinking she would know.
Name meanings were always an interesting thing for Beatrice, since her parents had told her about her name. She had to shrug about what Quni meant, since she didn't know that many. Name meanings weren't the matter at hand though, the matter at hand was to find this magnet.
Her blue eyes searched the water, but could only see the pale sand of the lake's bottom. Beatrice's ears twitched when she heard Quni walk over, holding a flyer in his paws. With curious eyes, she moved into a position where she could see the flyer and read it herself. While she was reading, she listened to Quni's explanation about where the item could be.
Beatrice nodded, her mind thinking about each area of the lake that was described. When Quni mentioned a river, her mind immediately remembered the name of the river that was mentioned to her before. "Yeah, the Slumbering River, I've heard pokemon mention it before." Beatrice answered, remembering what she heard at the cafe. Her job was useful for somethings, and one of those things was news.
"Awesome!" Quni beamed and began going off to the river.
He stopped when his stomach gave out another growl with the hunger pains returning. He pushed it away telling himself they could stop to eat when they get to the river. That alone made him realize he had no idea where the river was. His first thought was to ask Beatrice but then he told himself he couldn't keep relying on other pokemon to help.
Taking the map of the area out he glanced at the surroundings to figure out where they were. Along with the bag his Grandpa gave him was a compass, a map of the island, and a whole bunch of other neat stuff an adventurer would need.
"Hmm... I think we are right here," Quni said half to himself, putting his paw on the possible spot as he layer the map flat on the ground. "And the river is over here," he added, putting his paw there. "If I'm right we aren't far off!" Quni said cheerfully.
Beatrice had no clue where the river was, but it was likely that she could find it if need be. Since she could only map some of the area in her mind, she decided to follow Quni. Beatrice could've tried to find the river herself, but she knew it was a time waste.
Her eyes drifted over the scenery, hoping to maybe see the magnet. This wasn't where all her attention focused, as her long blue ears picked up on a rumbling noise. She glanced back at Quni, to see he had stopped. She ceased walking, seeing the quilava pull out a map.
With a light smile upon her face, she moved her position to see, her eyes easily making out the map. She wished that she had a map, but she hadn't gone and bought one. Her house had a few maps of other locations that her mother had brought home from her travels. Beatrice's mother had taught her how to read a compass and a map, she even gave Beatrice a compass.
The only issue was that she had left it at home, in an attempt to test her sense of direction. She nodded, agreeing with their presumed location and where the river was located. "Okay, then shall we be off?" Beatrice asked, not completely sure where to go.
