The sun was at the highest point in the sky, suggesting it to be noon. The rays of heat that came from the glowing orb warmed Crayton's pelt. The mightyena had wandered into the Breezy Plains, which was in the southern area of the island. It was a great place to sun bathe, since the long blades of grass were soft to lay on. However, the wind easily blew onto the plains, making the grass gently move, like waves on water. The mightyena's red eyes watched the grass gently move from the winds and felt it gently tickle his nose.
This cause him to sneeze, but he didn't complain, he simply smiled and let out a quiet chuckle. With that pleasant moment playing in his head, he walked further into the high grass of the plains.
Pluto was absolutely silent as he followed a pokemon with his eyes closed. Recently his fins had been losing their touch and he wanted to know that if he ever went blind that his fins would be able to get him around. So Pluto was following a pokemon through what seemed to be long grass. At one point the pokemon he was following sneezed, which made Pluto think of sneezing, and in turn made him sneeze. A couple bubbles escaped his mouth and drifted up into sky before they popped. Maybe he would get found out now. Oh, well. Pluto still didn't stop following them. Maybe it would end in a fight. He could only hope.
Crayton hadn't noticed the mudkip trailing him at all. He hadn't sniffed the air the whole time he was traveling, but he had heard the sneeze. The young mightyena's ears twitched, acknowledging the noise. His head turn to look behind him, just in time to see a few bubbles pop. Why are their bubbles? Crayton thought. He then sniffed at the air, smelling the scent of another pokemon. Crayton's eyes looked around a bit, and finally landed on the mudkip who had been following. How long has he been their? Crayton thought curiously.
He looked over the mudkip, and noticed that his eyes were closed, which was a bit peculiar. This made Crayton curious, and it didn't help that he knew nothing about mudkips. "Uh, hello," Crayton greeted, testing to see if the mudkip would respond or not.
When Pluto heard a voice he sighed. It didn't sound hostile, which meant that it probably wouldn't end in a fight unless he tried to be mean. Pluto kept his eyes closed as he sat down. "Hello." He replied. Pluto assumed that the other pokemon was male, judging by their voice. "Did you notice me because of my sneeze?" He asked afterwards. At least if it was because of that then he knew he could sneak up on pokemon as long as he didn't sneeze. Which was kind of hard for him, but it was possible. If they had noticed him before then he had to figure out how to make himself less detectable.
Crayton could just hear the mudkip sigh, but he ignored. The mudkip greeted him back, but still persisted to have his eyes closed. Crayton didn't understand why the mudkip kept his eyes closed, but Crayton just ignored that for the time being. A few moments after Crayton was asked if he had noticed him because of the sneeze. Crayton's paranoid trait then kicked into his thoughts. He must've been following me this whole time. How didn't I notice? Crayton thought, partially scolding himself.
Being a merchant meant he had to be careful, if he wasn't he could get ambushed and loose the goods he planned to sell. There was also the factor that the injuries may leave him out of business for a few days. "Yeah, I heard it," Crayton answered, with the slightest bit of nervousness in his voice. He hadn't expected to meet up with someone, or to have someone trail him. Crayton knew that he would have to practice his senses and be more cautious just in case a thief were to replicate these sneaking patterns.
When the other pokemon answered him Pluto was instantly aware of the small nervous sound in his voice. This made Pluto smile. He got up from his sitting position, still with his eyes closed, and quickly moved over to the pokemon. He walked around him and every so often would brush him with his fin. The mudkip kept circling the nervous pokemon until he took a step back. "You have shaggy fur and the build of a dog so I'm guessing you might be a poochyenna." Pluto smiled at himself for deducing that, even though he was slightly wrong he couldn't know this. Pluto had been working on figuring out who was what pokemon without using his eyes, it was pretty effective so far, although he was often wrong.
Crayton notice a smile on the mudkip's face, making it clear that he was enjoying this. He watched at the mudkip stood, and moved quickly towards. He felt the mudkip's fins touch his fur, which only made Crayton think he was more strange then what was thought. With the limited knowledge of the species, and how odd the mudkip was in general, gave Crayton many theories. When the mudkip finished circling him and took a step back, it guessed what kind of pokemon he was. The mudkip guessed his pre-evolution, which was poochyena.
Some pokemon may feel insulted by this, but not Crayton. He knew he was short for a mightyena, even if he had grown about 2 feet when he evolved. That is what surprised him about the guess though, however he ignored the annoyance. It didn't really matter if he was called his pre-evolution. "Incorrect, I am a mightyena, but close enough," Crayton shrugged. He was beginning to get over the idea that the mudkip had followed him, the main reason for this being that this was an interesting conversation.
"Anyways, I am Crayton, and who might you be?" Crayton asked curiously. He wanted to know what the mudkip's name was, since he seemed very peculiar. There was also the fact that Crayton wanted to learn more about this pokemon.
He was so close! Pluto chuckled. He was getting better at his guessing. He made a note that the mightyena was more streamline, muscular. Pluto would have to work on guessing evolution. Either way the pokemon introduced himself as Crayton. That was a funny name. It sounded like the kind of name a crabby would have, but Pluto didn't point that out. "I'm Pluto." He stated back. Pluto was bored with not seeing things so he opened his eyes and squinted against the new light. He blinked a few times before he could see sort of normally. Everything was still really bright though. Pluto sneezed and a bubble escaped his mouth. "You look nice." Pluto stated as he sniffed. It was about mid-day by the amount of light. So Pluto had been with his eyes closed for about a quarter of the day. That was pretty good. Longer than the last time he tried, which had ended after an hour.
Crayton heard a chuckle escape form the mudkip. He wasn't sure why the mudkip had chuckled, but once again he ignored for he was waiting for a name. That was when it hit his ears, and Crayton heard the unique name. He had found that there were a lot of unique names, but it didn't bother him. To him, unique was very similar to original, and to him, Pluto was one of those names. "That's a neat name," Crayton commented. He continued to watch Pluto and watched as he finally opened his eyes. There was then a sneeze that was similar to what he heard and saw earlier, this being the noise followed by a bubble.
Crayton was surprised to see this, he hadn't known any pokemon who could sneeze bubbles. Well, that explains the bubbles, Crayton thought, glad that he now had an answer to that question. He then heard a comment about looks, and wondered was that meant for him? "Thanks," Crayton said, mostly to be polite. Then there was still one question, why had Pluto's eyes been closed? "Also, why did you have your eyes closed?" Crayton asked, wanting to possibly add another fact to his books.
Pluto smiled. Apparently Pluto was a neat name. Crayton was pretty cool too, it's just that Pluto thought it sounded like the name for a crabby. Which didn't have anything to do with Crayton himself, just a thought. Then there was a question about why he had kept his eyes closed. Pluto just laughed. He supposed that it was pretty weird of him. "I closed my eyes because my fins are sensitive enough to guide me, but I want to make sure that I can do things well enough with them. I need to stay sharp, in case I ever go blind." Pluto smiled then looked around. They were in a field and when Pluto had originally thought of the tall grass he had been right. "I was following you to make sure I could still follow pokemon without being spotted." He added.
Crayton was glad to see that e had made someone smile. It was just something that went down to the pit of his belly and warmed him, inside to out. He waited a few moments for the answer to his question, and indeed did he learn something. Crayton had no clue on how sensitive a mudkip's fins are and how they could be used to guide them if they were to become blind. He also thought that it was kind of a neat way to test skill, and would be a great skill to have. "That is interesting, I had no idea how sensitive a mudkip's fins were," Crayton commented.
He listened onto the rest of the story on why Pluto had followed him, and he had to admit it was a fair reason. Sharpening one's skills was important and would bring great skill. Crayton had to catch up in this game though, since he didn't usually focus on his skills. "The most I get is the ability to smell very well and my hearing of course," Crayton said. He wanted to sharpen his skills more then ever, especially since this was the second time someone had managed to sneak up on him.
Pluto nodded. Mudkip fins were really sensitive, but that was good and bad. Bad in a battle, good anywhere else. Pluto smiled again when Crayton said his enhanced senses. "That's pretty cool. My fins are kind of like a sixth sense and all of my other senses are normal, it would be kind of interesting to have normal enhanced senses. Is it weird to smell things from really far away? I imagine it would be weird to smell something before you see it." Pluto was rambling a little and when he noticed that he stopped. Pluto thought about what might happen if he had better hearing. He'd probably just practice using it instead of his sight, same with smell. He'd have games where he'd try to guess what he was smelling. Like different types of berries. It would be fun. Then Pluto had an idea. "Do you want to play a game?" Pluto asked with a large smile. They were in a field, and there was usually a few berries in a field. He was definitely going to test Crayton.
A sixth sense, that is very interesting, at least in Crayton's books. He had no clue what that would be like, but he was use to his enhanced senses. Being able to smell from a further distance and have excellent hearing was always nice. However, excellent hearing didn't help with his fear of loud noises, it only made it so he heard them louder or from a further distance. Then Pluto asked if it was strange for him to smell things from far away, but Crayton was used to his abilities. "Well, I am used to my enhanced senses, so it isn't that strange to me. Most of the time when I can't see something I smell the air," Crayton explained.
It hadn't taken long for a game to be offered, and Crayton got curious. "Sure, what kind of game?" Crayton asked. By agreeing from the start, he was already a little deep into the agreement, but it was just a game.
It made sense that Crayton was used to his enhances senses, just like Pluto was used to his. It had been a silly question. Then Crayton agreed to his game. He also asked what the game was, but Pluto was already running away into the long grass. "I'll tell you once I get back." He called. Pluto began looking for berries that he knew. He was a cook so he was very familiar with berries, but he needed to make sure that they weren't gross. Or maybe find some gross ones and see if he could tell they were gross. So when Pluto came across a pecha berry patch he picked a couple and then went scrambling back to where Crayton had been. Hopefully he was still there. Before he could see Crayton, but could tell he was still there Pluto called. "Okay now close your eyes and see if you can tell what I brought back."
Crayton crooked his head to the right as he watched Pluto scamper away. At that moment he was told to play the waiting game until the mudkip returned. This made Crayton curious, but he didn't question it. All Crayton knew at the moment was that he would have to wait for Pluto to return, and that this wasn't a foul trick. The mightyena just shrug, and slid the bag that was around his neck to the ground. He felt a little bit peckish and decided that since he had to wait, that he would enjoy a little snack. He opened the bag and grabbed a mago berry, mostly because he loved the sweet taste and didn't want anything large.
Crayton began to munch on the berry, his ears pricked for the footsteps. He smiled as the sweet taste hit his tongue, he was always pleased with berries that tasted sweet. Then he began to hear the footsteps, and at once he slid everything into his bag. He had no clue what the game had in store, so naturally he wanted to be prepared. He put his head through the loop of the old bag, feeling it hit against his chest. He hadn't seen Pluto yet, but he gave some instruction, and Crayton wasn't one to ruin a perfectly fine game. With that, the mightyena closed his eyes, and welcomed the small amount of darkness.
"Okay, my eyes are shut," Crayton called back. It was easy to tell that it was a guessing game, and Crayton was excited.
